As we welcome 2024, we’re reflecting on the bustling year of 2023 for Venterra and our Talent Acquisition team! It was a year filled with plenty of promotions, workplace recognitions, lots of portfolio growth, and much more!
Awards & Recognitions
2023 was another year packed with recognition for having a company culture that stands out from the crowd. Our annual anonymous team member survey, conducted by the Great Place to Work® Institute, is one of the many ways we work to ensure Venterra colleagues have an opportunity to let their voices be heard. In addition to gaining valuable insights into ways we can further enhance the experience of our team members, the feedback we received was positive enough to earn Great Place to Work “Certified” status and become eligible for additional recognitions.
On the U.S. side, Great Place to Work & FORTUNE© magazine ranked Venterra #5 on their list of the Best Workplaces in Real Estate for a second year in a row, we were named one of the Best Workplaces in Texas for a sixth time, and the Institue partnered with PEOPLE magazine to name Venterra one of the 2023 Companies that Care.
Survey results from our Canada team members resulted in six additional Great Place to Work awards. These included the company being named a Best Workplace for Inclusion, a Best Workplace for Today’s Youth, a Best Workplace for Mental Wellness, a Best Workplace for Professional Development, and the Institute named Venterra to the overall 2023 Best Workplaces in Canada! It wasn’t just our workplace that was award-winning in 2023! Our people-first approach to customer experience resulted in Venterra being named one of the top 100 management companies nationwide by ApartmentRatings.com for a second consecutive year. And, in November, we earned the #4 spot on the esteemed J Turner Research ORA® Power Ranking, an industry-standard metric that relies on monthly online reputation research.
Acquisitions
Our portfolio grew in a big way in 2023! Among the latest additions to the Venterra family of communities were Avasa Hammock Landing, Avasa Grove West, and The Grove at Clermont in Florida, and Avasa Spring Branch in Houston! Promotions & New Hires
We kept up with our growing portfolio by adding more than 300 new individuals to the Venterra team in 2023, and our learning and development platform played a big part in helping us make good on our employer promise to promote from within with nearly 100 of our existing team members moving up into new positions. One of the exciting new additions to the Venterra crew was our Chief Financial Officer, Pam Higdon!
Thousands of dollars were paid out for team members referred to us through our internal and external referral programs, but many of the 2023 Venterra new hires met with us at one of our career fairs held throughout the year. With events taking place all across the portfolio, we had plenty of opportunities for interested candidates to connect with Hiring Managers looking for the perfect addition to their team. Evolving, Innovating, & Making a Difference
Positive transformation happens quicker when we recognize that challenges present growth opportunities, and when we work together to identify ways we can improve ourselves and the world around us. In 2023, Venterra teams exceeded expectations with their efforts beyond the boundaries of our communities.
In addition to donations and onsite events at our communities, Venterra colleagues logged tons of Venterra Cares PTO volunteer hours and our National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day event in May helped put more than 200 furry friends into forever homes at Venterra communities!
We continued to see tons of great ideas submitted through our Innspire platform and rewarded our team members for suggesting ways we could improve our operations and/or the experience of their renters and colleagues. And we kicked off the year with the addition of some serious enhancements to our paid time off policies in an effort to ensure our team members can fully enjoy the work-life balance they deserve!
Team Events & Appreciation
Our leaders are all about putting their team first. and it’s for a great reason. Venterra employees go all out to create an amazing experience for their customers and peers, and we think they deserve plenty of time to reflect on their achievements and a little extra appreciation for their constant hard work and passion for making it happen.
Individual and team successes from 2022 were celebrated during the Venterra Excellence Awards held at Dave & Buster’s at the start of the year, we named our 2022 Grand Prize WOW & WOW-EE winners, and our annual Venterra Leadership Conference, held in November, was a great opportunity for our leaders to get together to gain knowledge, sharpen their skills, and have an all-around great time with one another!
Throughout the year, teams across the portfolio were spoiled a bit more than usual during Onsite Appreciation Week, Family Fun Days to cut loose at various venues in each of our regions, we were blown away by the costumes and decorations that were put together for our annual Halloween contests, and there were plenty of holiday celebrations for our crews to enjoy, too!
